Amateur Ice Hockey 

Major junior

Rickard Rakell played for the AIK IF ice hockey team's J18 Elit and J20 Elit as a defensive player before switching to a forward role when he turned 14.


He went on to become one of the key offensive players in the AIK IF junior teams, which include the J18 Allsv and J20. He was later drafted 41st overall by the Plymouth Whalers in the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) 2010 Import Draft.


Rakell was outstanding in his rookie season with the Whalers and earned a place in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. He was ranked 34th among all OHL players eligible for the 2011 NHL entry draft. He also totalled 20 goals and 43 points in 49 games.


Rakell was drafted 30th overall in the first round by the Anaheim Ducks in the NHL Combine in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He attended the Ducks' training camp but returned to the Whalers for the 2011–12 season.


In his second season, he helped the Whalers qualify for the OHL playoffs. He later signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks on 3 July 2012 but returned to the OHL after participating in the team's training camp.

Rickard Rakell was reassigned to the Anaheim Ducks' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, ahead of the 2013–14 season. He began on a bright note and was eventually recalled by the Ducks to the NHL. However, he was returned to the Admirals.


He made a series of moves between the AHL' Admirals and the Anaheim Ducks before settling fully in the NHL.

Rakell played a significant number of games in the 2013–14 season in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks and eventually helped the team to reach the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs.


Rickard Rakell became a regular player in the Anaheim Ducks roster and helped the franchise qualify for the 2015 Stanley Cup playoffs.
