Metallurg Magnitogorsk 

Evgeni Malkin was part of the Metallurg Magnitogorsk ice hockey development team and later made his Russian Superleague debut in the 2003–04 season as a 17-year-old.


Malkin represented Russia during the 2003 U-18 World Championships and helped the country win the bronze medal.


Evgeni Malkin was drafted second overall in the 2004 NHL entry draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, he remained in Russia due to a transfer dispute between the NHL and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). He later signed an entry-level contract with the Penguins on 5 September 2006.

Evgeni Malkin was later allowed to play in the NHL following the end of his transfer dispute and court order. He made his NHL debut on 18 October, against the New Jersey Devils.

Malkin finished his rookie season in the NHL with 33 goals, 52 assists and 85 points in 78 games and won the Calder Memorial Trophy.


In Malkin's second season (2007–08), he recorded his first NHL hat-trick, against the Toronto Maple Leafs, on 3 January 2008. He was second in the NHL scoring chart with 106 points. The Pittsburgh Penguins advance to the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs.


Evgeni Malkin signed a five-year, $43.5 million contract extension with Pittsburgh on 2 July 2008. He was voted for the 2009 NHL All-Star Game. He was outstanding throughout the season and helped the Pittsburgh Penguins to win the 2009 Stanley Cup playoffs after beating the Detroit Red Wings. He was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy (Stanley Cup playoffs MVP).


Evgeni Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins also qualified for the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs but did not advance to the finals. He bounced back in the 2011-12 NHL season, winning the Art Ross Trophy.
