MSE currently owns and operates the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the Washington Mystics of the Women's National Basketball Association, (WNBA), the Capital City Go-Go (NBA G League), and the NBA 2K League team Wizards District Gaming. 


MSE also owns Monumental Sports Network, EagleBank Arena and the Capital One Arena.

The Washington Capitals were founded in 1974 as an expansion franchise of the National Hockey League. It was originally owned by Abe Pollin. The team joined the NHL as an expansion team for the 1974–75 season.

Pollin sold the Washington Capitals National Hockey League franchise in 1999 to Ted Leonsis.
