The New Jersey Devils is another franchise in the National Hockey League based in Newark, New Jersey. The team was founded in 1974, originally known as the Kansas City Scouts, and later became the Colorado Rockies. Another relocation to New Jersey resulted in the name change to the New Jersey Devils in 1982.

Josh Harris

Joshua Jordan Harris is an American investor and sports franchise owner. He is one of the owners of the HBSE holding company, which controls the New Jersey Devils franchise.


Josh is the co-founder of Apollo Global Management, managing partner of the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association and the Washington Commanders of the National Football League, and a general partner of the English Premier League team Crystal Palace, as well as a minority owner of Joe Gibbs Racing.


David Blitzer

David Scott Blitzer is an American investor. He owns a collection of sports franchises and is one of the managing partners of the New Jersey Devils NHL franchise alongside Josh. He is also a partner in the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association as well as the chairman of Blackstone's tactical opportunities division.


Blitzer is one of the biggest names in the management of sports teams globally and is part of the management of soccer teams under Global Football Holdings. He also owns a minority of the Cleveland Guardians (Major League Baseball) and the Washington Commanders (National Football League)


New Jersey Devils Ownership History

Edwin G. Thompson led Group 

An Edwin G. Thompson-led group was awarded an NHL team in 1972 as one of the two new expansion franchises. The team was initially named the Kansas City Scouts. After two seasons in Kansas City, the owners relocated to Denver and renamed the team the Colorado Rockies.


John McMullen led Group 

Following the relocation to Denver, the team was sold to a group headed by John McMullen.
