The major breakthrough following the Braga rise was at Sporting CP. In March 2020, he was appointed to be the new manager on a three-year deal until 2023.

The Lisbon-based soccer club paid over €10 million to secure his services and slammed a €20 million release clause.

His impressive record in the domestic scene attracted a renewal from the club that was worth a staggering €30 million release clause for one more year.

Ruben Amorim went on to create history as he went on a 32-match unbeaten streak and eventually won the Portuguese league title with Sporting CP for the first time in 19 years. An achievement for the club that is part of the Big Three in the country, alongside FC Porto and Benfica.

Ruben Amorim's second season at Sporting was another remarkable season for the team, especially in European football, where they performed the unthinkable to qualify for the UCL round of 16 after losing their first two games of the group stages.

Sporting were eliminated from the UCL following the defeat to Manchester City.

He later won another Portuguese league cup with the club and his third since his time at Braga.

In the following year, Sporting had a mixed campaign both in the domestic scene and in Europe. They finished third in the UCL and qualified for the Europa League knockout stages.

However, they were eliminated from the compensation by Juventus.

Sporting also got to the finals of the league cup but lost to FC Porto.

The following season, 2023–24, Sporting got back to top form fuelled by team movements in the transfer market, which saw the arrival of key players like Viktor Gyökeres.

Ruben Amorim guided the club to their second league title under his tutelage.

Amorim's future was up in the air following the club's official statement regarding the Manchester United move to trigger his release clause worth €10 million.
